Canterbury Racing Tips – Wednesday February 1st, 2023

We have expert betting tips for the card this Wednesday at Canterbury which features seven quality betting races.

Punters get good odds throughout the day in Sydney and we have our best value horse racing tips.

Canterbury horse racing tips and form

Race 1. (14:20) Drinkwise Maiden Plate (1200m)

#4 – The Little Pumper @ $2.40 – Bet @ Picklebet

The Little Pumper is breaking through after running second last time and that came at Randwick.

We expect that form to hold well and the son of Shalaa is primed with a trial at Warwick Farm.

We’re not surprised at the odds and having Tim Clark ride helps.

Race 2. (14:55) Furphy Maiden Handicap (1580m)

#3 – Eau de Vie @ $5 – Bet @ Picklebet

Eau de Vie takes second place at Muswellbrook, and although it’s provincial form, it measures up well here.

The three-year-old mare from Snitzel was bred for speed and we liked the way she hit the line, so going up to 1580m is ideal.

Punters get value chance and it’s worth including.

Race 3. (15:30) Schweppes Maiden Handicap (1250m)

#7 – Lalaguna @ $6 – Bet @ Picklebet

Lalaguna is close to breaking through after two second places from six starts, including a second at Warwick Farm last time out.

The three-year-old filly was a short margin behind Moonlight Grace and we thought she would be much shorter in betting markets.

Take the $6 before it gets shortened on race day.

Race 4. (16:05) Tab BM72 (1250m)

#2 – Game Theory @ $3.10 – Bet @ Picklebet

Game Theory comes desperately close to getting an overdue win and we’re sticking with him until he wins.

The five-year-old has already run second three times this preparation, including last time out at Gosford.

He hasn’t fully fired at Canterbury yet, but this race is there for the taking.

Race 5. (16:40) Microphone 1st Yearling BM72 (1900m)

#6 – Karlstad @ $4.40 – Bet @ Picklebet

Karlstad tinkered with a winning performance after some solid efforts at Warwick Farm and Canterbury.

The five-year-old son of Sacred Falls is a previous winner on the course and he pushed a good field close last time.

Punters get a chance in every direction and he is worth backing.

Race 6. (17:15) Calyx First Yearlings BM72 (1580m)

#4 – Journalism @ $2.50 – Bet @ Picklebet

Journalism was too good for them last time out at Wyong and we fancy his chances of going back-to-back.

The four-year-old son of I Am Invincible owns three wins and two placings overall, so he has always been around the mark.

After opening at $2.70, most of the early money came in for the favorite.

Race 7. (17:50) Exceedance’s 1st Yearling BM64 (1250m)

#11 – Dame Cartland @ $4.50 – Bet @ Picklebet

Money is with Dame Cartland, who scored emphatically by 3.3 lengths at Kembla Grange last start.

The three-year-old mare by Written Tycoon paid just $1.75 on that occasion, so punters have a much better chance this time.

Barrier three is ideal and she should go close to this level of opposition.
