Author Tony StCyr shares an incredibly heartfelt life story in Child of Lust ($16.49, paperback, 9781662865633; $30.49, dustcover, 9781662865640; $7.99, e-book, 9781656285).
Tony StCyr’s family had some deeply hidden secrets dating back to 1958.
That was the year a 16-year-old Southern Baptist girl from Fayetteville, Georgia, became pregnant. The teenager’s impoverished partner parents tried desperately to create a plan to save their family’s reputation and their tarnished daughter’s honor. As StCyr uncovers this emotional story, it was much more than just a pregnancy. Questions were raised: Was it consensual? What was to be done with the unborn child? Would she abort or give it up for adoption? Would she choose to raise it on her own or pass it on to an older sibling? Only the pregnant girl – StCyr’s mother – knew the truth, and she kept quiet for more than 4 decades.
“After learning the truth at my mother’s wake about my real father, a sister I never met, my close encounter with death and the missed adoption, I was so moved by what I heard that I felt the need to share our incredible story,” said StCyr. “My mother’s incredible courage and sacrifice was so decisive that it brought me to tears, and still does today. When I finished writing, Child of Lust, I told my family and circle of friends that my story, her story, our family story is many people’s story…rejection, loneliness, alcoholism and sadness are part of many people’s lives that walk among us today. It is my desire that Child of Lust will bring renewed hope for a better life and a ray of sunshine back into the millions of children who grew up in abusive situations, single mothers who feel they are at the end of their rope, and countless broken lives left behind today. hides forced smiles.”
