Gold Coast makes Booking.com’s top 10 list of the most ‘welcoming’ tourist destinations globally

The Gold Coast is the only Australian destination to make it into a list of the top 10 tourist destinations considered the most “welcoming” on earth, based on customer reviews on a booking website.
The Booking.com list is compiled annually, based on reviews of local hotels, rental car companies and airport taxi providers.
While the Gold Coast came in tenth place on the list, Polignano a Mare in Italy was named the most welcoming city in the world, followed by Hualien City in Taiwan.

The coastal town of Port Campbell along the Great Ocean Rd in Victoria topped Booking.com’s list of the top 10 most welcoming places in Australia.
Booking.com area manager Melissa Ellison said the towns were rated as the most “welcoming” based on their efforts to help tourists and show them hospitality.
“Whether it’s a friendly greeting from a taxi driver at the airport, sharing some local driving tips at the car rental desk or a thoughtful note waiting in the room, our passionate partners help make every trip more special ,” she said.

There were a number of reviews left of accommodation providers in Port Campbell rating them 9 out of 10.
“Check in and check out was extremely smooth and the receptionist (maybe Irish accent) even went the extra mile and gave us an umbrella when it rained. This was not expected and her assistance was above and beyond any previous experiences and places we have stayed,” said one review for the Southern Ocean Villas in Port Campbell.
“Our family of four enjoyed everything about our stay here,” said another review for Sea Foam Villas.
Halls Gap – home to Grampians National Park – took second place for its spectacular walking views and waterfalls.
Port Lincoln in South Australia, famous for its great white shark cage diving and pristine beaches, was second.
Toowoomba in Queensland on the edge of the Great Dividing Range, overlooking the Lockyer Valley, was third.
