And in just one hour and 14 minutes, Noskova sent the multiple Grand Slam winner on her way when she broke Muguruza four times in the encounter.

Sheriff benefits from Konjuh retirement

She needed just an hour and three minutes on court before Sherif waltzed into the second round here, as her opponent Ana Konjuh retired from their first meeting in the second set.

Sherif was leading 6-2, 3-2 in the encounter before Konjuh refused to give her a free pass in the second round. It was Sherif’s first main draw win of the season, following a qualifying loss at Adelaide, and opening defeats at both Hobart and Australian Open.

The Egyptian player saved all three break points she faced while breaking her opponent twice in the first set. Things were on serve in the second and could have gotten interesting as Konjuh looked to have found her serve rhythm before she was unable to continue due to fitness issues.
