Wang has been in solid form in more recent times as she looks to improve from her current WTA ranking of 81st in the world. And she continued to show it in her opener against Joanne Zuger.
The 81st ranked player from China needed just an hour and 16 minutes to get past Zuger and win 6-2, 6-2 to seal the victory.
After reaching the quarter-finals at the Hobart International as a lucky loser and then entering the second round at the Australian Open, Wang was broken in the very first game of the match.
From that point on, she broke Zuger three times in the set to take the lead and then also led 4-0 in the second set. From there it was a matter of a few decent games and while Wang lost her serve once, she cruised to an easy win.

Bjorklund banishes Tararudee
Lanlana Tararudee is a local who was given a wildcard to play in her home tournament, but all she could do was take six games from Bjorklund in their opening match.
The Swedish player beat Tararudee 6-2, 6-4 in an hour and 17 minutes to seal her place in the second round.
In a match that featured 11 breaks of serve from the 18 games, it was Bjorklund who managed to hold on to her serve five times in the encounter to her opponent’s just twice.
What Bjorklund will certainly want is for a better service game heading into her second round match, but either way she will be relieved to have a main draw match on the WTA circuit after she last did it in July last season.
