Hosted by the Peace Region Family Resource Network, the Circle of Security is an early intervention program for families. Certificates are awarded upon completion of the course.

The evening events take place every Thursday from February 2 to March 23 at 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. The evening events take place every Friday from February 3 to March 24 at 10:00 to 11:30

The program teaches attachment education, says Lindsay Gauvreau, the network’s program coordinator. The sessions will be taught by Marilyn Drouin using the network.

Circle of Security is usually conducted in a group of 4 to 10 participants. Registration for once a week, 8 consecutive weeks, grants caregivers certifications in this parenting style.

“It can also be done individually, so people who can’t make the group or it’s not a platform they’re comfortable with can do Circle of Security individually with one of our facilitators,” says Gauvreau.

“You’ll learn why it’s beneficial to form a really strong bond with your kids, what’s in it for them, and what’s in it for you. It also helps you strategize for letting your child go out into the world and explore, but knowing they have a safe place to return to.”

Gauvreau adds that there’s also an emphasis on how caregivers grew up as children and how that can impact a person’s parenting style.

When children know what to expect from their parents, it can create a good bond of trust between a child and their caregiver.

A minimum of 4 participants is required to run the program. If not enough people sign up, the network will attempt to run again in the spring.

“We really want to be able to offer not just this parenting program, but every program that we run. We really want to be as active as possible in Fairview. The more feedback we get from families and what they are looking for and what would work well for them, the better we can offer these courses and these parenting opportunities.”

Community members can call the resource network at (780) 624-0770 or email [email protected] if they are interested in participating.
